Aircraft Maintenance engineer is a person licensed to ensure that aircraft are airworthy in accordance with local and international standards.

The Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India has approved many institutes throughout the nation for imparting "ab-initio" training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) after ensuring compliance of all the requirements. With the vision of contributing skilled man power for civil aviation industry, Visveswaraya Institute of Engineering Technology has established its Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Division (Toms Aerospace Academy).

Visveswaraya is one of the famous educational Institutions in India, offering a large and exciting choice of engineering degree programs. Today our academic staff continues to provide the highest standards of teaching to more than 1000 students. The Institute, established in 1988, has ably demonstrated the efficacy of professional education, which has attracted the attention of students and parents alike.

In a short span, as many as 141 All India Ranks and almost 100% results were achieved for AMIE by the students of this Institution. Within a small span of 6 years, our students have won 54 All India Ranks (subjectwise) for AMAeSI, to the astonishment of all. The introduction of new multi-storied Hostel buildings for both Girls and Boys, the introduction of Educational Institution Bus, the new college Auditorium etc. reflect the interest the management takes in the well being of students and their progress. There is a new enthusiasm, a new wave as we are moving to start the AME course. All are confident that this plan would lead to the production of Aircraft Maintenance Engineers of extra high quality.

The Aerospace Division is set up based on the guidelines laid down and amended from  time to time by DGCA in Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) Section 2 (Airworthiness) Series E Part I and series E part VIII for conducting "ab-initio" training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering for obtaining Basic Licence in the Mechanical stream (Aeroplane and Powerplants ) - comprising of Light Aeroplanes (LA), Heavy Aeroplanes (HA), Piston Engine (PE) and Jet Engine (JE). The Institution is under the process of approval.
